Hope - 17x22" Print - Edition of 25

$100.00

This is a Limited Edition 17x22 inch print of the painting, “Hope”. There are only 25 of these made. This is a high-quality print on 130 lb heavy paper.

This piece has fascinated me since I began working on it in fall 2023. I've been exploring how ideas seem to pop into our minds from somewhere outside ourselves, almost like they're being sent from a deeper source – something Carl Jung might call the collective unconscious. There's a repeating theme of leaving what's safe and familiar to journey into the unknown. My first idea was to show Icarus being inspired to fly by a bird. The bird represents a messenger from a wilder, more mysterious world.

Update - After displaying this piece at the BAM Art Fair and talking with hundreds of art enthusiasts, I've gained valuable insights into how this painting resonates with the broader community.

My aim was to create a work that captures a specific moment while being intentionally ambiguous and archetypal, rather than telling a concrete story. Viewers have interpreted the painting in various ways, seeing elements such as St. Paul in prison, an allegory to Christ with the bird's nest evoking the crown of thorns, and even the Birdman of Alcatraz, a film I have yet to watch.
