The Olive Oil Factory, Montoro, Spain

$400.00

Oil on Linen mounted to prepared birch wood cradled panels. 9x12 inches. Standard Size

This painting was inspired by a long-distance walk. I enjoyed these walks because of the endless olive trees stretching to the horizon. Public dirt paths weave through these olive groves, providing access to people's plots of land. With nobody else around, I found myself alone with my thoughts. It served as a much-needed meditation retreat, and I spent many days walking among the olive trees.

This region of Spain produces the majority of the world's olive oil (much more than Italy). Many olive oil factories are located near the trees to minimize the distance from tree to bottle. The olive oil here has a distinct flavor that differs significantly from what is available in the US. When tasted on plain bread, the oil reveals rich flavors with peppery notes.
